Day 3 - Dinner at my house.

Ed discovers Connor’s ticklish spot.
Thursday Oct 9:
Tonight Pastor Ed and Ligia came over to my home and finally met my wife and son. This was a meeting I’ve been praying for for a long time and it has finally happened. Since my wife has never been to Bluefields, and not likely to any time soon, this was an opportunity for her to get a taste of Bluefields without leaving home. More importantly, I wanted her to meet two people who have become like parents to me.
My small group also came over for dinner and we had a chance to sit down and chat about what it was like raising their children in Bluefields.
The stories I heard were nothing short of miraculous… surviving deadly hurricane Joan, helping abused and needy teenagers in the aftermath, a child with a serious illness that miraculously healed, managing to make ends meet and ease the suffering of others despite having nearly lost everything. To top that off, they managed to raise three loving children who are sticking together, respect their parents, and love God.
Both Ed and Ligia were happy to share their experiences, and I started to get an idea of what it was like for them to raise kids in Nicaragua. Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), their experiences as parents aren’t that different from our own. This is comforting because seeing and hearing about their lives and their children gives hope for my family to do the same.
A few thoughts stuck in my head…
- Eat together.
- Involve your children constantly.
- Instill good morals and values starting in the crib.
- Have faith that the Lord will choose what is best for your child.
From their example we can be encouraged that it’s possible to raise a tight, loving, and God fearing family regardless of circumstance and financial situation. The glue that held them together was that they loved Jesus together… maybe that is the missing puzzle piece in today’s society? The answer seems so simple, yet so hard to attain.

Casa Canadiense in Managua just sent us the links and info that Pastor Ed is in Canada - great news - what a surprize. We are a group at a local High School (Robert F Hall) who are planning a trip to Bluefields in the last 2 weeks of January to work on a school building project with Pastor Ed; and when we were in Nicaragua last year we didn’t have chance to meet with him personally but 2 of us did fly out to Bluefuields. Some of the teachers would love to get together with him before he leaves the GTA - could you please contact us and let us know if this is possible.
Thanks so much Kevin Anderson TEACHER Robert F Hall
