In a delicious twist of irony, following the reports of sky-rocketing food prices having an effect in increasing poverty in Nicaragua, April 13th is Gallo Pinto Day in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is attempting to take the crown from Nicaragua by making the world’s biggest gallo pinto. Nicaragua currently holds the world record by serving 18,400, and Costa Rica plans on beating that by 8,000.

I wonder if they are going to have any leftovers?
