The Sandinista government in Nicaragua has promised aid to malnourished families along the Caribbean coast. Under this program, 75,000 people will receive seeds, livestock, and tools to harvest them. The initiative will last 5 years and cost a total of $110 million USD. (source: Reuters)
According to Counter Currents this program will also provide low-interest loans, technical education, and access to specialists. The website cites that 80% of farmers who began a similar program achieved financial independence.
This is positive news for locals along the Caribbean coast who have been ravaged by hurricanes and disease.
