US Navy places military presence in Latin American waters

Can’t say I like where this is heading. With a few Latin American countries becoming increasingly vocal about US foreign policy and more cohesive in partnerships, it’s disconcerting to learn that the US military will deploy the 4th Fleet into the Caribbean waters.
While certain governments in Latin America will interpret this move by the US as an act of aggression or intimidation, the US states that they are there to bolster “maritime security efforts that focus on common threats and mutual interests” - which includes anti-narcotic operations.
Recent disputes between Nicaragua and Venezuela against Columbia (see these stories: Nicaragua-Colombia, Venezuela-Columbia), tensions over oil, food, and political values - the entire region on precarious footing.
The presence of an American fleet, good or bad, is a disturbing sign of things to come.
