Stories of heart-break and hope from Nicaragua

Aside from my family, there are two other things that I’m passionate about: helping the poor in Nicaragua, and photography (see here). Ever since my first trip to Nicaragua in 2007, I have been using my gift in photography to help raise awareness of the issues in the country. I have even toyed with the idea of becoming a freelance photojournalist for NGOs to help them document their projects and outreach.

So perhaps I shouldn’t have been surprised to discover a group that is doing exactly this - helping aid organizations record their trip through photos. This group is called Backpod (http://www.backpod.org/) and they were recently in Honduras helping a medical team with clinics (similar to Cornerstone’s medical clinics last week in Bluefields).

The description on their website reads:

“As skilled designers, filmmakers, photographers, journalists, and travelers… we will work to fully understand the work of the organization and document the experience.”

I have many photographer friends, perhaps one of them will get inspired and get involved. Perhaps some day I’d be able to join a group like this and help NGOs document their endeavors around the globe.

Their work is beautiful and evocative. To see their photos, please visit their Flickr page.
